Exam prep

My sites suggestions were don't listen to bad advice like the one about the guy who only studies a day before and still gets high marks. Make contact with other in case later on you would like to form a study group (ROFL). Make sure you know all the topics your classes have covered.

Bad advice can lead you to make bad descisions and leave you unprepared. I believe that studying in groups is much more effective and that you learn much faster. When in groups you can always assisst you friends or vice-versa. Making sure you know what to study is important because otherwise you may end up studying irrelevant topics or missing relevant ones.

I believe there are few reasons why boys find fantasy and science fiction more interesting than other genres. One, they are often exciting and full of action. They have interesting story lines that contain things that wouldn't normally be possible. Finally, they have include many twists and turns that aren't expect.

It is for these reasons that I also enjoy fantasy and science fiction. I love the way the story line is always interesting and unexpected. I also think thats the reason that many other people I know enjoy this genre.

poetry

I think that poetry still remains popular after many centuries because it is a great way of expressing yourself. The role poetry plays in my life is a very small one. I rarely hear or read poetry unless it's in the form of song lyrics. I also think that the most popular form of poetry is in song lyrics.

I think think the reason people love poetry so much is because it's a convenient form of entertainment and it comes in many different styles and forms. I personally enjoy poetry in the form of song lyrics because they are usually catchy and meaningful.

The poem Jack and Jill was written by George Freeland in 1697. I still remember this poems over the ages because it has a lot of rhyming and is a very common poem.

I believe that the quotation from the Dead Poets Society means that expressing ourselves with poetry is a natural thing that is very important. I don't think this is true because I believe that music is a more effective way of expressing yourself.

The two common types of poetry that I found were song lyrics and rhymes in television advertisements. I believe that song writers use poetry in their lyrics because it makes the song flow better. The reason television advertisements sometimes use poetry is because it makes the product that they are trying to sell more memorable when it has been intertwined with a catchy slogan.

The clip made me feel interested because of the way it was presented and the music that was played. I found the facts about how large myspace would be if it was a country very interesting. I find it hard to believe that so many people communicate using new technologies these days. No I found all the information believable since so many people use these technologies in society. It makes me think about how lucky we are to have education and technology.

Sports and Drugs

I believe it is wrong to take recreational drugs but if people want to its there own choice as long as theirs lots of help available if they need it, so I believe that if professional sportsmen want to take drugs it should be their own choice, they are people to. I don't think professional sportsmen should be tested for recreational drugs but they should be strongly advised to quit if they take them. I don't htere should be penalties if a person on drugs is caught 'using' but clubs should make sure they get plenty of help if they need it.

BOOK VS MOVIE

Today my task was to write about whether books or movies are better. There are many instances where books are better than movies and many the other way around.

A book I read a while ago called Eragon later became a movie. The book was very good and had plenty of action but was a disappointment in the cinema. They movie had parts of it made up to suit the short viewing time. Another famous book and movie was the Da Vinci Code. The Da Vinci code was a great book and was a much better movie compared to the Eragon movie.

I believe that books are generally better than the movies that are created with them. I would also recommend that if you watch a good movie that was based on a book you should definitely read the book.

Hazza Pozza

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the final book of the Harry Potter series. It is about how Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are on a mission to kill Lord Voldemort.

I believe it will attract readers in there teens because of the ages of the characters in the book and the style that it’s written in.

I think this book is good because it is full of action and twists. I believe it will sell because Harry Potter fans wouldn’t read the whole series then not read the final one.

Peak Adventure

Next week I'll be mountain biking from the Flinders back to the school. I chose this activity because I thought it would be a good challenge. I believe that the most challenging thing will be the tough long distance riding. I think the most challeging thing other than the riding itself will be keeping warm during the negative temperatures. I think the views that I will witness will be the best part of the trip. I think I need to challenge myself so I don't become a soft city kid and I like pushing myself to my limits.

Shakespeare

I personally haven't read any of Shakespeare poetry but last year we studied Romeo and Juliet. I've never been to a play of Shakespeares, mainly because I can't understand the language used. I have watched the modern version of Romeo and Juliet which used the olden days language with a modern setting. I don't know very much about Shakespeares work but would be willing to learn more although I wouldn't want to learn more through acting in one of his plays.

PS The reason that you shouldn't mention Macbeth is because it is bad luck to say it in a theatre or you will curse the actors to a bad performance.

Books for Boys

Today I read some of the posts by ‘books for boys’. I believe that the author created the site to try and entice more young men to read with a setting they would be more familiar with. I think her slogan ‘readers are leader others follow’ means that if people start reading more people will also start. I believe people who are shy about reading or people who need inspiration to read would go to this blog. I read the ‘More dangerous books for boys’ post, it showed some of her manuscripts for new book ideas. I found one of her manuscripts interesting because it combined a number of interesting ideas and I would love to read the book. I felt inclined to comment because I believe she needed people to give her feedback on her ideas.

The way I get introduced to a book is usually through a friend. If I thoroughly enjoy the book I’ll look for the sequel or prequel (depending which it is in the series) online.

I find this strategy particularly useful although it means I only have a new book to read if I get it introduced to me first.

The book I am reading now is called ‘the Restaurant at the End of the Universe’ which I like a lot. I found it after it was introduced to me by a friend. I would definitely recommend it to other readers as long as they read the prequel ‘the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’.

The Restaurant at the end of the Universe

The restaurant at the end of the Universe is the sequel to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. The main character in the book is Arthur Dent but his character remains mostly uninvolved in the beginning so for now I will talk about Zaphod Beeblebrox who is currently the most active character. Zaphod Beeblebrox is the former President of the Galaxy but his presidential position was revoked after stealing the space ship, ‘the Heart of Gold’. Zaphod is faced with the challenge of escaping the Vogons after the theft of the Heart of Gold.

I believe that Zaphod was put in the book to give it a twist and give you someone to get annoyed at. Also he was needed in the book so he could allow the destruction of the planet Earth. I think he needed to be male and of middle age so his laid back attitude and annoying attitude would have more of an effect.

If Zaphod had been written as a girl the story would be totally different seeing as Zaphod’s charm and charisma would have to be totally different. Also if the character was female the story wouldn’t have the same affect and the book would become much less exciting.

Elizabeth 1 and the Spanish Armada

The book 'Elizabeth 1 and the Spanish Armada' is about Queen Elizabeth the 1st and her involvement in the Spanish Armada. It was set like a comic book which made it easier to absorb and had interesting facts on many of the pages. I enjoyed this book because it showed me the Spanish Armada in a way that helped me understand it easily.

Space Explorers

‘Space Explorers’ is about a brother and a sister who explore planets that are inhabitable for humans. While exploring a planet they become stranded and are forced to find a way back to mother ship. They encounter many troubles during their adventures. I don’t think Space Explorers is a very exciting story and that it has a silly storyline. I found the book to be too simple.

Me as a reader

I find it difficult to be drawn into the storyline of a book. I think this is because of my unmotivated attidtude toward reading. I always think of something more exciting to do than reading as soon as I pick up a book; but, once I find a good book with an intense storyline it becomes unputdownable.

In my books I like very interesting and unpredictable twists. I love lots of mystery, just as longs as it's revealed at the end, because I hate nothing more than mysteries that are never uncovered. The last thing that has to be in my type of book is plenty of action I can't stand a boring book.

A book I would one day like to read is the biography of my great, great, great Grandpa, Major John Andre' because it sounds like an interesting read.
